Dear Guests of our Embassy’s website,
The Turkish Embassy was first established in Karachi in 1948, immediately following the founding of Pakistan, and was moved to Islamabad as it became the new capital. The Embassy is working towards furthering the brotherly relations between the two countries, which take root from the historical bonds between the Turkish and Pakistani peoples.
Our primary aim is to strengthen our economic and cultural relations in order to bring them to the level of our excellent political relations. In this regard, a Consulate General in Lahore and Yunus Emre Cultural Centers in Lahore and Karachi will be established in the near future.
Efforts are also ongoing to develop the transportation links and increase the contacts between the business communities of the two countries to strengthen our economic relations. Turkish Airlines has already increased its weekly flights to Pakistan from seven to fourteen and started flights to Lahore, alongside Islamabad and Karachi. In the period ahead, scheduled cargo train services are planned within the framework of the Economic Cooperation Organization Istanbul-Tehran-Islamabad Container Train project.
In the field of culture, the Turkish Language Department at the National University of Modern Languages in Islamabad and the Turkish Chair at the Punjab University in Lahore are continuing their work. The activities within the framework of the 2013-2014 Cultural Years, which aims for the reciprocal promotion of the cultures of Turkey and Pakistan, are already underway. Furthermore, the Protocol for Cultural Exchange Program for 2013-2016, was signed on September 17, 2013.
